The Arena Amazônia is the stadium of Manaus, in northern Brazil, where the Rio Negro meets the Amazon.
The stadium was built with sustainability in mind. For example, rain water is used to flush the toilets and to water the green, while the sun is used as an energy source. In addition, a special coating of the roof keeps the interior cool and saves energy.
The façade and the roof of the new structure, which blends in with the surroundings and resembles a traditional indigenous basket, were designed by German architects.
Yet not all players may look forward to playing in the tropical climate of the Amazon.
