A fire in the TROX factory in Anholt, Germany, could easily have got out of hand. But, luckily, the TROX production workers and the local fire brigade prevented a disaster.

Late on Tuesday evening, at 9.50pm, a fire started in one of the booths where multileaf dampers are manually coated with zinc to protect them from corrosion; the fire was probably caused by sparks flying off. The workers on the production line immediately started battling the fire with fire extinguishers, thereby preventing it from spreading further.

The fire brigade from nearby Isselburg town arrived at the site only ten minutes later, at 10pm, and was able to extinguish the fire completely.

To be on the safe side, three TROX employees were taken to the local hospital. According to the emergency doctor they showed signs of irritation of the respiratory system that had probably been caused by the dry powder from the fire extinguishers.

'Yet the night shift could start as planned in the areas adjacent to the affected production line. The line where the fire started is not yet in operation, but we are working to clean up the space and expect it to be functioning again very soon', says Dieter Becker, Head of Production in Anholt.
