CENTRALIZED AND DECENTRALIZED AIR HANDLING UNITS

The field of activity in the product area of centralised ventilation and air conditioning systems (air handling units = AHUs), includes product development work, supervision of factory acceptance tests as well as on-site measurements.

DEVELOPMENT WORK

Referring to the casing

  • Material test
  • Load tests
  • Casing properties as per DIN EN 1886

Referring to the components

  • Pressure losses
  • Characteristic curves & performance check Checking the usability of special components

Referring to standard units

  • Development of standard unit types
  • Metrological testing of prototypes
  • Acquisition of catalogue data

FACTORY ACCEPTANCE TESTS:

To check the designed devices and calculated data from the data sheets, customers are increasingly requesting a factory acceptance test.

During this test, the devices are completely assembled and made ready for operation in the factory. The test setup makes it possible to set the designed operating data of the device and thus check whether the volume flows, the external pressure and the power consumption are suitable.

Further tests during factory acceptance tests include, for example, the determination of casing air leakage in accordance with DIN EN 1886 or acoustic measurements on the device.

In addition to the measurements, the customer usually checks details previously discussed with the sales department.

TESTS ON SITE

Occasionally, technical data has to be checked again directly at the customer's premises. Here it is possible to determine the volume flow rate on the AHU or the pressure losses of the components.

Other measurements that can be carried out directly on site are the casing air leakage on the device or oscillation measurements on the fan.

DECENTRALISED VENTILATION UNITS

In research and development, we develop new decentralised ventilation units up to production maturity and optimise and enhance existing units. The focus here is on the use of new technologies such as more efficient fans or heat recovery using innovative materials, etc.

For projects, existing devices can be adapted to changed circumstances (less space required, etc.) according to customer requirements.

Decentralised ventilation units are subject to EU Regulations No. 1253/2014 and No. 1254/2014, whose scope of measurement includes the following points:

  • Determining the volume flow rates

  • Determining the control voltages for operating stages
  • Electrical performance
  • Pressure losses of all components in the unit
  • Determination of sound power level (link to reverberation chamber)
  • Detection of internal & external leakage

Other areas of activity include:

  • Determination of catalogue data

  • If necessary, characteristic curves with external pressure
  • Heat distribution on the unit (or electric heating coil or heat exchanger) with thermal imaging camera
  • Flow test in the AHU laboratory incl. flow videos, comfort tests (measurement of air velocities, temperatures etc.) (link to AHU laboratories)
  • Flow simulations using CFD (Link to CFD)
  • Project-related demonstrations to demonstrate measurement results, flow tests, etc.
  • Site visits for on-site measurement of volume flow rates, pressure losses and sound pressures
